Cornwall's Best Spots For Storm Watching!

December 6, 2017

It would be silly to think that all we get in Cornwall is sunshine and beautiful sunsets... But as long as we're careful, stand clear of the cliff edge and stay away from the shoreline, we can all enjoy Cornwall just as much when a storm rolls through!

1) Porthleven

Perhaps the most photographed place in cornwall when the wind picks up and the waves get rough. Nonetheless, it is an incredible place to watch the waves crash against the cliffs and high above the church, with the best views being from the west side of the harbour.

2) Trevose Head

With views out to the Atlantic from the warm shelter of your own car, Trevose Head isn't just a great spot to watch the sunset, it's a great place for watching storms roll in and the sea spray reaching as high as the lighthouse!

3) Pentire Head

Located in-between Crantock and Newquay, Pentire is my second favourite headland for it's unbelievable views. Pop in to the Fern Pit Cafe to overlook the River Gannel or Lewinnick Lodge for views of Fistral Beach.

4) Trebarwith Strand

For a different sort of perspective, head to Trebarwith Strand at high tide when the water's edge comes right up to the rocks. Be careful though, because the waves get really powerful, which is what makes Trebarwith so hard to beat! If it seems too dangerous or if it's just too rainy, seek shelter in The Portwilliam Pub, where you'll still get a good view and be able to get good food!

5) Porth Island

Yet another spot for the North Coast, but I bet it's a much lesser known one! Porth Island (otherwise known as Trevelgue Head) is only accessible via a small wooden bridge, which makes it a really special spot for storm watching. Not only that... It's also home to a pretty impressive blow hole in the side of the cliff (most impressive at mid-tide), making it that much more spectacular!
